Bangli
It is the only inland regency without the island. With beautiful views of Mount and Lake Batur, located in the volcanic highlands, with its bubbling hot springs and lush slopes covered in rice fields.
Its economy is based on the agricultural sector, with a small artisan industry that also supports tourism.
KINTAMANI-Village in situated the mountains at 1400 meters from the sea level, next to the 1717 meters high Batur volcano (still active) is the highest peak in Bali and is considered a sacred place.
The center of this mountainous region is located around the spectacular volcanic crater (or caldera) of Batur. On Mount Batur adjacent to the volcano is the large crescent-shaped Lake Batur surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim.
Well known among cycling enthusiasts for being a starting point for their routes.
BATUR VOLCANO- Active, located in the center of two concentric calderas to the northwest of Mount Agung. Access to its summit provides one of the most beautiful sunrises on the island "you feel like floating among the clouds." On the clearest days you can even see the Rinajani volcano on the neighboring island of Lombok. The southeast side of the largest 10 × 13 km caldera contains a caldera lake named after its name Lake Batur. A very interesting excursion in Batur is the ascent through the interior of the crater from Penelokan to Kedisan. We also recommend walking around Mount Batur, through Songan.
LAKE BATUR- It is located at an altitude of 1,050 meters above sea level. It is the largest lake in Bali, eclipsed by the volcano and has a hot spring. Located at the foot of Mount Batur and Mount Abang. We can enjoy its spectacular scenery from Kintamani. Across the lake, only accessible by boat, is the village of Trunyan, where the Bali Aga people live. This place is notorious for its mortuary traditions. Instead of cremating the dead, as the Balinese do on most of the island, the Trunyan communities leave the bodies to decompose naturally in a special graveyard.
ULUN DANU BATUR- It is a beautiful temple dedicated to the lake god, being the most important of the Balinese temples after the Mother Temple of Besakih.
PENELOKAN- Means "place to be seen", with a height of 1450 above sea level makes the town surprise you with its cold and pure temperature. Many local and foreign tourists choose this place to enjoy the fresh mountain air, while observing the beautiful landscape. Agriculture is its main activity but also the commercial sector is developing with the arrival of tourism.
DALEM PANUNGGEKAN- This temple is the busiest in the area, where its traditions can be observed. It is usually full of Balinese people praying even on some occasions their ceremonies can be seen.
TIRTA SUDAMAL- In the village of Bebalang, on the banks of the Banyuasri River, is this spring, believed to have miraculous powers for cleansing and healing. Its name means purification. It is said that it never dries even during the dry seasons or seasons, it is visited by people who want to perform purification rituals and also by those who want to enjoy the landscape. From the paved road you have to descend a few steps to the river bank, where the spring water flows through 11 pipes with different heights in cascade to join the river waters below. People who perform the cleansing ceremony, known as melukat, begin the procession by praying at the riverside sanctuary, and then continue to slowly submerge their bodies in the river. The next step is to stand under the shortest spout and let the water flow over the body from head to toe. Then they continue to do the same with the other water flows, letting the water wash their bodies. The final flow ends near the sanctuary, so to finish this special cleaning another prayer will be performed and then the priest will sprinkle holy water on the head of those who pray. Many Balinese drink the spring water also to cleanse inside their bodies. Importantly, pregnant women should not join the cleansing ritual as it is believed to cause abortions (since the ritual cleanses the woman's body including the baby). The crystal clear spring waters are pleasantly cold and refreshing, its surroundings are very pleasant, full of vegetation, smells of the jungle and sounds of the splashing of the river water, making the atmosphere serene enough to awaken all your senses.
Where to witness and practice the beauty of the island's culture and tradition. The melukat cleansing ceremony is an important part of the Balinese ritual. More than half of our bodies are made up of water, the main component in the human body and plays an important role in our survival. The brain needs this essential liquid to make hormones, helps supply oxygen to parts of our body, and regulates our body temperature. The Balinese believe that water is a means used by the divine to deliver blessings to those who worship them. They also believe that it has the power to cleanse the mind, body, and soul, essentially purifying the body's "life" from negative elements, this includes bad luck, dark energy, and even the sins of a previous life. For this same reason, the Balinese consider springs and natural bodies of water as rivers or sacred seas.
PENUSILAN- It is located at the top of Puncak Penulisan on the outer edge of the Batur caldera, in the village of Sukawana and is approximately 3 km north of Kintamani. It is the oldest and tallest temple and still one of the best kept secrets in Bali. Penulisan is translated "where history was written", the Balinese history is "the center of life in Bali". It is dedicated to many gods where Shiva and Vishnu are the most praised figures. However, the representations of Brahma, Ganesha, Buddha share the same space.
Surprisingly little is still known about its history. The mysterious origins of the temple reinforce the magical atmosphere of Bali. Based on the temple's earliest rock formations, it is believed to date back to 300 BC. In fact, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism affirms that it is "a megalithic relic", being able to observe its inscriptions and carvings is quite an amazing experience. Like all the temples on the island, it has open architecture (no closed rooms), large (open-sided pavilions), courtyards, shrines, thrones, and divided doors.
Open architecture is very representative of the Balinese culture where people live in union with nature. Rain during a ceremony is considered a very good omen and gives it a further boost of prosperity. The Balinese never curse the rain when it arrives, even when they get soaked while riding their bikes in the middle of a monsoon.
He has a dominant view of what might be called "the peaks of the trinity" these peaks are Gunung Agung, Gunung Abang and Gunung Batur. Perfect alignment that grants a magical view over the sunrise mist with the sea in the background. Being high enough that you can "be in the clouds" when visiting it, especially during the rainy season (generally from October to March).
At the top, after sunrise (or even before sunrise), you can participate in a private Balinese blessing ceremony. Savor every part of this ceremony, slow down and observe every detail. Watch the guides prepare the offerings and light the incense. Observe their physical presence and thoughts when you participate in the traditional ceremony. Be aware of the sights, the sounds, even how the atmosphere embraces you. See how they feel when he offers his wishes to the spirits of Bali.
To get a real idea of the area, swap the sarong for cycling shorts. Puncak Penulisan back roads are quiet and in good condition. The descent at first is steep enough that you wonder if your bike is gliding in midair or still connected to the pavement.
NUNUNG- This waterfall is one of the wonderful natural heritage of Bali located in the Pelaga village. To get there you have to go through Sangeh Monkey Forest and some of the beautiful rice fields. The sound of the waterfall mixes with the beautiful sound of the jungle, which makes this place wonderful. To access you have to go down about 500 stairs that are well worth it! where you have to wear good shoes since the green moss that grows along the way can be a little slippery. There is a small temple as a sanctuary of the God Vishnu located right next to this waterfall. The Temple festival is held in Purnama (full moon), where many Hindu people come to this shrine to pray.
SANGEH MONKEY FOREST- Located in the north of the village of Sangeh, the forest is covered in nutmeg, "these trees cannot be found elsewhere in Bali," and their existence is a mystery. It is occupied by hundreds of monkeys with an area of 14 hectares is a sacred territory that is protected. In the middle of a dense green forest live more than 600 docile and friendly monkeys that attract visitors, the forest and monkeys become a fascinating tourist object that is worth the worth visiting attractive for children and adults.
It is a magical place. As soon as you enter the temple it reminds you of the Jungle Book, the world of monkeys is very fun, unique and different. It transmits something so special that you want to spend a good time observing the smallest with their mothers, the young and the imposing elders. The vegetation, the bridge with dragons sculpted on the endless staircase that takes you to another section of the amazing and spectacular view of the forest. Monkeys everywhere, jumping, running, playing, eating. One of the best visits and experiences in Bali.
According to local mythology, the word Sangeh is derived from the root "Sang" which means person and "Ngeh" means to see or observe. The nutmeg trees growing in the forest are said to have originated from Mount Agung who made a trip to Tama Ayun. They were going to decorate the garden that belonged to the Mengwi Kingdom. Their trip was made in the afternoon to avoid being observed. Unfortunately, people saw walnut trees walking in a procession. Suddenly they stopped. The place where they stopped was called Sangeh, which means one who sees.
TIBUMANA- This waterfall does not have many visitors, it is not the largest nor the highest in Bali, although to get to it you have to pass through beautiful rice fields and walk along a jungle path of very exuberant and colorful. So it really feels like a hidden gem in the jungle, it's a beautiful paradise. It is definitely one of the best kept secrets on the island. Perfect for spending the day exploring the surrounding rain forest and swimming in the natural rock pools.
